session 2026-10-07 · 667 liquid names scanned · insight, not advice

One idea OBSERVATION

The single most interesting thing in what investors said publicly this quarter — not a recommendation, and not a prediction.

34 people are bearish on USTS; only one actually holds the position.

Among the 34 who've voiced the bearish call are Bridgewater's 13F, Cameron Dawson, Chris Casey, Chris Whalen, Dan Suzuki, Ed Al-Hussainy, Greg Peters, and Harley Bassman. Only Steve Chiavarone actually holds the position. Talk and positioning diverge by a factor of 34 to 1 on the same trade — one of the widest gaps between stated view and actual exposure in the group.

Counted from the corpus: 34 people are bearish on USTS; 1 of them actually hold the position.

Has this worked? OBSERVATION

Every convergence we have ever flagged, priced from the next session’s open and measured against SPY over the same window — 291 of them at 60 sessions.

Average +0.74% vs SPY, but the median was 0.00% — the typical convergence matched the market exactly, and 43% beat it. The average is carried by a small number of large winners, not by being right consistently.

*The three validated put-selling signals — explained in the next section.

Rich premium today VALIDATED

What this means: if any of these is a stock you'd own at the right price, today is a well-paid day to sell its put. We check three conditions, each independently validated on ten years of real option quotes — every one, on its own, earned put sellers more per trade than selling on a random day:
high vol — the options are expensive in absolute terms (IV ≥ 30)
top of its year — premium in the top quarter of that name's own trailing year
post-drop — the stock fell 5%+ this week; protection is being bid
More conditions = a better day. Signal is from last night's close and typically persists days, not hours — verify the live quote at the open. The example contract is the shape our validation used: ~40 days out, ~20-delta, held to expiry, assignment acceptable.

The c8alpha take

The major bank prints are days away — GS, JPM, BAC, WFC, and MS all report within the week, and the whole cohort is sitting at elevated vol and near yearly highs, about as well-paid a setup for premium sellers as you'll see heading into an earnings cluster. The power story got more specific today: BKV, a Barnett Shale gas producer, disclosed a large equipment contract backed by a hyperscaler off-take agreement — the clearest example yet of AI demand being wired directly to gas, not just grid abstractions. Meanwhile the nuclear basket has mostly fallen over twenty sessions while AI/datacenter semis have run hard; both themes were supposed to benefit from the same buildout, and only one is. Gold pulled back today into what is, by some margin, the most crowded long in the data, so tomorrow's question is whether that eases cleanly or the consensus starts to feel its own weight.
