The Brief · every market morning, 08:45 ET

Wednesday 28 October

One ideaWritten at 08:45 ET, before the open

The first real challenge to the AI-buildout washout is VRT, sharply higher before the bell after quarterly results and a raised full-year outlook, while chips and industrials are also bid. If VRT holds after the open and strength spreads into other power names, yesterday’s all-red infrastructure tape may be starting to turn; an isolated fade would leave it as an earnings exception. Energy is bid again, reinforcing the recent rotation toward oil and gas, though that read weakens if the sector gives back the early move. CDNS still carries heavy downside protection after its earnings bounce; losing that bounce would validate the caution, while continued strength would blunt it. GOOGL and MSFT report tonight, and their reactions will show whether the market is ready to look through the infrastructure slump or extend it into the largest software names.

Rich premiumWhere the put is well paid at Tuesday’s close

Rich premium today  VALIDATED

What this means: if any of these is a stock you'd own at the right price, today is a well-paid day to sell its put. We check three conditions, each independently validated on ten years of real option quotes — every one, on its own, earned put sellers more per trade than selling on a random day:
high vol — the options are expensive in absolute terms (IV ≥ 30)
top of its year — premium in the top quarter of that name's own trailing year
post-drop — the stock fell 5%+ this week; protection is being bid
More conditions = a better day. Signal is from last night's close and typically persists days, not hours — verify the live quote at the open. The example contract is the shape our validation used: ~40 days out, ~20-delta, held to expiry, assignment acceptable.

This is activity, not a reading on premium: who traded size, in what, leaning which way. Volume = settled options volume against the name’s own normal, with the contracts traded under it. Calls / puts = the split of that volume. Stock move = last session and last five sessions.
