The Brief · every market morning, 08:45 ET

Tuesday 3 November

One ideaWritten at 08:45 ET, before the open

The chips read from overnight partially reverses before the bell — AEHR is up sharply after its blowout burn-in quarter, Lattice Semiconductor gapped on a strong report, and Fabrinet moved on optical interconnect demand, pulling the chip sector strongly higher. That matters for AMD's report tonight: the semis tape has a better tone now than it did at yesterday's close, and how AMD reacts will still be the first real read on whether the drawdown has found a floor. Energy is the read that weakens — it led the overnight narrative, but energy ETFs are soft this morning, and some of that rotation leadership may not hold at the open. Bloom Energy got a Barclays upgrade overnight, a divergence worth watching: one grid name getting bought while most of the power theme is still in retreat. The most notable negative is Shopify, down sharply on a shelf filing to sell shares — a company-specific supply event, not a macro signal.

Rich premiumWhere the put is well paid at Monday’s close

Rich premium today  VALIDATED

What this means: if any of these is a stock you'd own at the right price, today is a well-paid day to sell its put. We check three conditions, each independently validated on ten years of real option quotes — every one, on its own, earned put sellers more per trade than selling on a random day:
high vol — the options are expensive in absolute terms (IV ≥ 30)
top of its year — premium in the top quarter of that name's own trailing year
post-drop — the stock fell 5%+ this week; protection is being bid
More conditions = a better day. Signal is from last night's close and typically persists days, not hours — verify the live quote at the open. The example contract is the shape our validation used: ~40 days out, ~20-delta, held to expiry, assignment acceptable.

This is activity, not a reading on premium: who traded size, in what, leaning which way. Volume = settled options volume against the name’s own normal, with the contracts traded under it. Calls / puts = the split of that volume. Stock move = last session and last five sessions.
