session 2026-10-09 · 677 liquid names scanned · insight, not advice

One idea OBSERVATION

The single most interesting thing in what investors said publicly this quarter — not a recommendation, and not a prediction.

Forty-five people are bearish on long-duration Treasuries. Zero hold the position.

Alicia Levine, Barry Ritholtz, Bob Doll, Cem Karsan and dozens of others have voiced the bearish case on long-duration Treasuries in the past 90 days. None of them show an actual position against the bonds. Even Bridgewater, which filed a 13F, is on record here only as a talker, not a holder. The view is universal in conversation and absent in portfolios.

Counted from the corpus: 45 people are bearish on LONG_DUR_TREASURIES; 0 of them actually hold the position.

Has this worked? OBSERVATION

Every convergence we have ever flagged, priced from the next session’s open and measured against SPY over the same window — 291 of them at 60 sessions.

Average +0.74% vs SPY, but the median was 0.00% — the typical convergence matched the market exactly, and 43% beat it. The average is carried by a small number of large winners, not by being right consistently.

*The three validated put-selling signals — explained in the next section.

Rich premium today VALIDATED

What this means: if any of these is a stock you'd own at the right price, today is a well-paid day to sell its put. We check three conditions, each independently validated on ten years of real option quotes — every one, on its own, earned put sellers more per trade than selling on a random day:
high vol — the options are expensive in absolute terms (IV ≥ 30)
top of its year — premium in the top quarter of that name's own trailing year
post-drop — the stock fell 5%+ this week; protection is being bid
More conditions = a better day. Signal is from last night's close and typically persists days, not hours — verify the live quote at the open. The example contract is the shape our validation used: ~40 days out, ~20-delta, held to expiry, assignment acceptable.

The c8alpha take

The sharpest read in today's tape is in telecom: VZ and T each fell hard for a second consecutive session at multiples of their normal volume, with downside protection actively bought in BCE as well — three names, same direction, same urgency. That kind of coordinated sector pressure tends to keep going; tomorrow's open is the first read on whether it stabilizes. The big-bank earnings window opens in four days — GS, JPM, WFC, and BAC are all sitting near year-highs with options pricing elevated across the group, and multiple voices have turned constructive on GS and MS specifically heading into results. The most striking fact in the brief, though, is the Treasury positioning gap: forty-five voices have argued the bearish case on long-duration bonds in the past ninety days, and not one holds the position. Consensus without commitment is worth sitting with.
