The Brief · every market morning, 08:45 ET

Tuesday 27 October

One ideaWritten at 08:45 ET, before the open

The overnight energy read faces its first complication: XLE is softer pre-market on the day RRC reports, and the momentum ahead of a catalyst often already belongs to whoever positioned into it. Chips are the sharpest sector bid before the bell — Celestica's earnings gap is a specific data point against the AI infrastructure selloff story, since the contract manufacturer delivering into that buildout just reported well. The broader tape is tilted to the upside, with liquid stocks gapping up outnumbering gapping down by a wide margin, so this is not a risk-off open. On bonds, Kettner's flip to long is the most interesting new signal inside an otherwise lopsided short camp — whether the yield tape at the open confirms or fades that move is today's macro thread. GOOGL in two days and the energy number today are the two next pivots.

Rich premiumWhere the put is well paid at Monday’s close

Rich premium today  VALIDATED

What this means: if any of these is a stock you'd own at the right price, today is a well-paid day to sell its put. We check three conditions, each independently validated on ten years of real option quotes — every one, on its own, earned put sellers more per trade than selling on a random day:
high vol — the options are expensive in absolute terms (IV ≥ 30)
top of its year — premium in the top quarter of that name's own trailing year
post-drop — the stock fell 5%+ this week; protection is being bid
More conditions = a better day. Signal is from last night's close and typically persists days, not hours — verify the live quote at the open. The example contract is the shape our validation used: ~40 days out, ~20-delta, held to expiry, assignment acceptable.

This is activity, not a reading on premium: who traded size, in what, leaning which way. Volume = settled options volume against the name’s own normal, with the contracts traded under it. Calls / puts = the split of that volume. Stock move = last session and last five sessions.
