One idea OBSERVATION

The single most interesting thing in what investors said publicly this quarter — not a recommendation, and not a prediction.

Twenty voices are bearish on the S&P 500 — only three have skin in the game.

Jamie Dimon, Jeffrey Gundlach, Larry McDonald, Louis-Vincent Gave, Joseph Wang, Jeff Snider and Chris Bloomstran are among those talking down the S&P 500, but the actual short position belongs to just three: Jeremy Grantham, Kevin Smith and Michael Howell. Seventeen bears are talking without a trade behind it.

Counted from the corpus: 20 people are bearish on SPX; 3 of them actually hold the position.

Has this worked? OBSERVATION

Every convergence we have ever flagged, priced from the next session’s open and measured against SPY over the same window — 201 of them at 60 sessions.

Average +1.51% vs SPY, but the median was 0.00% — the typical convergence matched the market exactly, and 44% beat it. The average is carried by a small number of large winners, not by being right consistently.

Rich premium today VALIDATED

What this means: if any of these is a stock you'd own at the right price, today is a well-paid day to sell its put. We check three conditions, each independently validated on ten years of real option quotes — every one, on its own, earned put sellers more per trade than selling on a random day:
high vol — the options are expensive in absolute terms (IV ≥ 30)
top of its year — premium in the top quarter of that name's own trailing year
post-drop — the stock fell 5%+ this week; protection is being bid
More conditions = a better day. Signal is from last night's close and typically persists days, not hours — verify the live quote at the open. The example contract is the shape our validation used: ~40 days out, ~20-delta, held to expiry, assignment acceptable.

The c8alpha take

The sharpest split in the tape right now is energy versus AI hardware: oil and gas names swept unanimously higher over the past month while the datacenter complex sold off broadly, with Broadcom — which reported yesterday — moving on five times its normal volume as a new bearish voice flagged an unfilled April gap as the destination. Whether Broadcom stabilizes or extends lower tomorrow is the cleanest near-term tell for where AI hardware sentiment actually sits. In the fact feed, FactSet drew nearly all-put flow at close to a dozen times its normal volume with no visible catalyst — one-sided downside buying that specific tends to either prove smart quickly or fade fast, and tomorrow is the first chance to see which. The energy consolidation is worth framing carefully: two M&A announcements landing in the same session — a large Permian acquisition and a completed deepwater offshore merger — arriving into a sector that is already as crowded long as the voice board shows is the kind of setup where the thesis and the trade are pulling in opposite directions. Gold bounced today after a softer week, and silver's options strip is flagged as better-paid than usual, which makes today a more reasonable day than most to hedge an existing precious metals position. The macro bear camp on the S&P deserves the asterisk in the Idea Scout data: of roughly twenty voices calling the index lower, only three are actually positioned that way, while nearly all the bulls are invested in their view — a gap between talk and trade that tends to matter most when the tape finally forces a decision.
