The Brief — edition, Thursday, September 24 2026

session 2026-09-24 · 702 liquid names scanned · insight, not advice

One idea OBSERVATION

The single most interesting thing in what investors said publicly this quarter — not a recommendation, and not a prediction.

Nvidia has 25 public bulls in the corpus and just two disclosed holders.

Ankur Crawford and Jim Cramer are the only two recorded as actually holding NVDA. The other 23 — including Brad Gerstner, Dan Ives, David Sacks, Charles Payne, Chris Roland, Bill Baruch and Eric Vishria — have voiced bullish views without a disclosed position. The most talked-about ticker in the set has the thinnest recorded ownership behind the talk.

Counted from the corpus: 25 people are bullish on NVDA; 2 of them actually hold the position.

Has this worked? OBSERVATION

Every convergence we have ever flagged, priced from the next session’s open and measured against SPY over the same window — 291 of them at 60 sessions.

Average +0.74% vs SPY, but the median was 0.00% — the typical convergence matched the market exactly, and 43% beat it. The average is carried by a small number of large winners, not by being right consistently.

Rich premium today VALIDATED

What this means: if any of these is a stock you'd own at the right price, today is a well-paid day to sell its put. We check three conditions, each independently validated on ten years of real option quotes — every one, on its own, earned put sellers more per trade than selling on a random day:
high vol — the options are expensive in absolute terms (IV ≥ 30)
top of its year — premium in the top quarter of that name's own trailing year
post-drop — the stock fell 5%+ this week; protection is being bid
More conditions = a better day. Signal is from last night's close and typically persists days, not hours — verify the live quote at the open. The example contract is the shape our validation used: ~40 days out, ~20-delta, held to expiry, assignment acceptable.

Someone is making a very specific bet NOTABLE

Options volume piling into one strike and date, call-heavy — the footprint that sometimes precedes announcements (deals, guidance). Not a buy or short signal — a "something may be brewing here" notice, and rare by design.

The c8alpha take

GEN is the sharpest single-name read today — down hard two sessions running, nearly all options dollar in one strike, IV near the top of its range, and a pattern shape the recent tape has consistently traded negatively. The defense theme had the biggest momentum shift of any group, far more names falling than gaining over twenty sessions, even as the AI datacenter cohort kept extending — INTC and AMD leading. That divergence shows up in the filings too: AESI, a proppant company, disclosed building hundreds of megawatts of dedicated generation for a frontier AI lab — the clearest sign yet that power supply is attracting capital from unexpected corners. A seventh voice in ten sessions joined the SPX bear cluster — these setups have historically leaned the speakers' way — but the wider macro panel still leans bullish on equities. Tomorrow's tells: whether the concentrated single-name unwind spreads, and whether defense keeps lagging infrastructure.
