The Brief — Thursday, September 17 2026
session 2026-09-17 · 814 liquid names scanned · insight, not advice
Today’s edition is for subscribers.
Last night the Brief read the settled options tape on 814 liquid names. In the Thursday, September 17 2026 edition it found 19 names where today is a well-paid day to sell a put, 4 where the options tape did something unusual, and 3 where an investor’s public call and the flow point the same way. Subscribers had it in their inbox before the open.
Yesterday’s edition is free — in full, forever. The only thing $20 a month buys is today’s, while the names in it are still the ones being quoted.

And here is how it has actually done.
Every convergence we have ever flagged — 201 of them, priced from the next session’s open and measured against SPY over 60 sessions — averaged +1.51% vs the index. But the median one returned 0.00%, matching the market exactly, and 44% beat it. The average is carried by a handful of large winners, not by being right consistently. See every combination →
What a “well-paid day” means VALIDATED
If a name is one you would happily own at a lower price, some days pay you much better than others to say so in the options market. We check three conditions, each independently validated on ten years of real option quotes — every one, on its own, earned put sellers more per trade than selling on a random day:
| Condition | What it means |
|---|---|
| high vol | the options are expensive in absolute terms (IV ≥ 30) |
| top of its year | premium sits in the top quarter of that name’s own trailing year |
| post-drop | the stock fell 5%+ this week — protection is being bid |
More conditions on the same name = a better day. Signal is from last night’s close and typically persists days, not hours. We show the shape our validation used: ~40 days out, ~20-delta, held to expiry, assignment acceptable. How we test claims →
What that looks like Wednesday, September 16 2026
Three of the names from yesterday’s edition, exactly as subscribers got them — the condition it met, where its premium sits against its own year, and the contract with its closing bid. Today’s edition is the same page, a day earlier.
